Smoking Gun Part 17 - German Renewable Industry Spokesman Presses for Nuclear Shutdown
The old "smoking" industries are not the only ones who have a direct financial incentive in shutting out the nuclear competition. Here is a quote from a March 6, 2009 article on Energy Daily titled Analysis: Nuclear vs. renewable in Germany : In 2020 renewables are to satisfy 47 percent of Germany's power mix -- more than triple the share of today, which stands at 15 percent. To achieve...

German Energy Agency Director Shares Plan to Deal With Power Demand in the Future - Hint: More Fossil Fuel
Reuters is reporting that Stephan Kohler, the managing director of Dena , the German government energy agency, recently spoke at a trade fair in Europe in favor of a continued push to build new coal and gas fired power plants as a way to ensure that Germany remains an industrial power. Angela Merkel declares Germany's nuclear phaseout decision was "absolutely wrong"
There has been a strong shift in the talk about nuclear power in the European Union, driven by concerns about global climate change, energy prices and increasing dependence on Russian oil and natural gas. Until recently, Germany's official position has been that it would continue with its plan to shut down all of its operating reactors by 2021. That plan was designed and implemented under the direction...

German power executives want more nuclear power but official government position is unchanged
According to a March 24, 2008 article in the Guardian titled We need more nuclear plants to avoid blackouts, say German power chiefs , German power industry executives are working to encourage discussion of the current agreement to phase out nuclear power. They point out future supply challenges and state that shutting down their already operating plants will make it even more difficult to supply their...

Germany's RWE presses forward with coal plant to replace lost nuclear capacity
Though plans for several coal fired power plant projects in Germany have been suspended, RWE recently announced that it is pressing forward with its project to construct a 1600 MWe hard coal facility in Hamm, in the Westphalia region. RWE has several partners in the project including 23 municipal utilities. According to a February 19, 2008 Reuters story titled German RWE to push ahead with 2 bln euro...
