It's is the epitome of irony that the democrats would advocate the closure of one of the biggest idiocies of nuclear history, the Yucca Mountain project. Only a truly bankrupt society would spend billions to throw away nuclear fuel. But of course it goes hand in hand with building a nuclear industry based on a reactor design that requires 5 tons of uranium be mined to make 1 ton of uranium fuel. Yucca Mountain was the gutless solution for dealing with spent fuel because no one in the industry has a spine and is willing to state the obvious, that fission products need to be separated from uranium so that their disposal only poses a few hundred year hazard as opposed to a milliions of year hazard.
