Intergraph And SightLogix Deliver Integrated Geospatial Surveillance For Nuclear Plants

Integration of Intelligent Video Sensors Within Scalable Decision-Support System Enables Comprehensive Detection, Assessment, and Response to Plant Security Threats and Incidents

 - By Stephen Heiser -

Intergraph, a leading global provider of geospatially powered software, and SightLogix, maker of outdoor intelligent video surveillance systems, have seamlessly integrated SightLogix' GPS-based video analytic sensors with Intergraph's scalable decision-support system for comprehensive detection, assessment, and response to nuclear plant security incidents.

“There are three elements necessary to secure the perimeter of a nuclear facility,” said John Romanowich, president and CEO of SightLogix. “First, you need reliable detection of a security violation, day or night, 24/7.  Second, you need to know the precise location of the intrusion, especially for large perimeters and remote areas. Third, you need to determine the nature of the event in order to coordinate an appropriate response. Meeting these requirements in the presence of extremely low nuisance alarms is the key to effective security. This is what SightLogix, along with our partner Intergraph, has been able to achieve.”

SightLogix SightSensorFor nuclear facilities, early detection of security violations can be the difference between business as usual and catastrophe. Without automated, intelligent surveillance specifically designed to operate in the outdoors, locating a perimeter intrusion is like trying to find a needle in a haystack.

The SightLogix Enterprise Security System is built to detect, track and zoom in on intrusions using the SightLogix SightSensor and SightTracker over large perimeters and outdoor areas.  By incorporating GPS-based target tracking, SightLogix provides an intrusion’s exact location relative to the area under surveillance. When linked with the Intergraph system, GIS-registered target data regarding the size, velocity and exact bearings of a detected target are combined into an easy-to-assimilate, common operational picture, providing security teams with a complete, long-range view over the facility – landside and waterside, day and night.

Graham, president, Intergraph Security, Government and Infrastructure. "By integrating SightLogix' video sensors into Intergraph's scalable decision-support system, nuclear security personnel have an even greater ability to assess, detect, and respond to threats and incidents as they work to protect people and critical infrastructure."

Capable of long-range detection in the harshest outdoor environment, SightLogix' automated, GPS video analytics are well suited for locking down perimeters and buffer zones, while the Intergraph system displays and fuses multiple sensor activities into a single interface. The combination of GPS-enabled intelligence within a single, easy to understand interface provides the critical domain awareness necessary for a proactive security implementation.

"SightLogix' geo-registered detection capabilities are best leveraged by a GIS-capable command and control system," said John Romanowich, president and CEO of SightLogix. "Knowing the precise location and nature of a plant security intrusion is essential for areas under the responsibility of a large community of responders. Our partnership with Intergraph is a natural and logical extension, and proves the efficacy of a standards-based, open system security design."

The SightLogix/Intergraph integration is well suited for organizations that must coordinate various sensor technologies among multiple security teams for a unified and appropriate response. Security personnel at nuclear plants, as well as airports, transportation centers, border patrol, utilities, petroleum refineries, financial institutions, and other organizations with large outdoor areas can all benefit from the actionable intelligence derived from this integrated solution.

Intergraph is a leading global provider of engineering and geospatial software that enables customers to visualize complex data. Businesses and governments in more than 60 countries rely on Intergraph's industry-specific software to organize vast amounts of data into understandable visual representations and actionable intelligence. Intergraph's software and services empower customers to build and operate more efficient plants and ships, create intelligent maps, and protect critical infrastructure and millions of people around the world.
Intergraph operates through two divisions: Process, Power & Marine (PP&M) and Security, Government & Infrastructure (SG&I). Intergraph PP&M provides enterprise engineering software for the design, construction and operation of plants, ships and offshore facilities. Intergraph SG&I provides geospatially-powered solutions to the defense and intelligence, public safety and security, government, transportation, photogrammetry, utilities, and communications industries.

SightLogix provides pre-emptive, automated outdoor surveillance systems for buffer zone protection around critical infrastructure and key assets, at half the cost of alternatives. The company's open-architecture, Intelligent Video Surveillance system provides full situational awareness to increase both the effectiveness and efficiency of security manpower.
