The National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) participated in a Clean Energy Economy Forum at the White House where 14 individuals from across the NNSA nuclear security enterprise discussed how science and innovation will lead the way to future green jobs.
“We are fortunate to have a broad base of talented experts working throughout our nuclear security enterprise that we can call upon to help solve our nation’s most challenging problems,” said NNSA Administrator Thomas D’Agostino. Last month, D’Agostino participated in a White House briefing on the national security implications of global climate change.
NNSA was invited to participate in today’s event by U.S. Energy Secretary Steven Chu and Senior Advisor to the President Valerie Jarrett. NNSA was among a select group of business leaders, energy experts and labor leaders who joined the Energy Secretary and White House staff to discuss and provide individual views on the opportunities and challenges presented in the clean energy economy and the national debate over the nation’s energy future.
The emerging clean energy economy will drive the development of new, green jobs that pay well and cannot be outsourced.
As President Obama said recently, “The United States led the world’s economies in the 20th century because we led the world in innovation. Today, the competition is keener; the challenge is tougher. And that’s why our work is more important than ever.”

Participants from NNSA included representatives from NNSA headquarters, Los Alamos National Laboratory, NNSA Nevada Site Office, Pantex, Sandia National Laboratories, Y-12, and Lawrence Livermore National Security, LLC. In addition, representatives from National Security Technologies, LLC, Sain Engineering, and Burns & McDonnell also participated by invitation from NNSA.
