Calvert Cliffs success a direct result of strong support from consttituents
- Edited by Linton Levy -
Dear Calvert Cliffs Supporter:
On October 30, 2009, the Maryland Public Service Commission (PSC) announced its decision to approve the joint venture between Constellation Energy and Electricite de France (EDF), regarding EDF’s acquisition of 49.99 percent of Constellation's existing nuclear fleet. And today, Constellation Energy announced that its board of directors has approved the PSC’s conditions regarding the joint venture. As you are aware, this outcome was a significant step toward the development of our proposed Calvert Cliffs 3 project.
I want to take this opportunity to thank you for the overwhelming support we received for Calvert Cliffs 3 throughout this process. Whether it was through a letter or by attending a public hearing your efforts helped to ensure that our goal, to provide a reliable, affordable, clean energy supply for ourselves and future generations, continues.
This year we made significant progress in moving our CC3 reference site forward -- from our selection by the Department of Energy to enter the final phase of due diligence for federal loan guarantees, to announcement of the Project Labor Agreement (PLA), to receiving a final Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity (CPCN) from the Maryland PSC. In the coming months we hope to have additional news regarding the loan guarantee process, as well as, efforts to finalize our engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for the proposed Calvert Cliffs 3.
Again, thank you for your continued interest and support. If you have any questions or would like additional information please contact a member of the UNE team at: info@unistarnuclear.com.
Sincerely,
George Vanderheyden
