The U.S Nuclear Regulatory Commission has selected Robert Jones as the new Resident Inspector at the Fermi nuclear power plant in Newport, Mich., roughly 30 miles southwest of Detroit.
Most recently, Jones was acting resident inspector at the Byron nuclear power plant located near Byron, Ill. He joined the NRC in Region III as a reactor engineer in 2006.
Prior to joining the agency, Jones served more than nine years in the Navy. He was a Lieutenant Commander assigned to the Naval Nuclear Power School. Jones graduated from the State University of New York with a bachelor’s of science degree in engineering and received a master of business administration degree from the University of Central Florida.
“Robert Jones is an experienced inspector with a firm commitment to safety. He will help the NRC fulfill its mission of protecting people and the environment by helping ensure the Fermi plant operates at the high standards set by the NRC,” Region III Administrator Mark Satorius said.
