B&W Expands Operations By Leasing Facility For mPower Reactor Engineering And Design

The Babcock & Wilcox Company (B&W) has signed a multi-year lease with the City of Lynchburg for a 50,000-square foot facility to house its growing engineering and design team working on the new B&W mPower nuclear reactor.

The facility can be reconfigured to provide office space for up to 300 engineers, designers and support personnel. Initially, about 35 employees will move into the facility.

In June 2009, B&W announced its plans to design and deploy a new modular nuclear reactor capable of generating power in 125 megawatt increments. The program is receiving continued interest from numerous potential customers. B&W has begun its pre-licensing activities with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, and the company intends to submit the license application in early 2012.
