NNSA Names Charles Pray As Director Of Congressional Affairs

Former Maine state lawmaker will represent NNSA on Capitol Hill

 - By Linton Levy -

The National Nuclear Security Administration today announced that Charles P. Pray will serve as the agency’s Director of Congressional Affairs.

Pray, a Vietnam veteran, served 18 years in the Maine State Senate, including eight years as President of that legislative body. He also worked for seven years as a senior advisor in the Department of Energy’s Office of Congressional & Intergovernmental Affairs under the Clinton Administration. Most recently, he served for seven years as Nuclear Safety Advisor for the State of Maine.

“It is a pleasure to welcome Mr. Pray to our team of dedicated professionals who work each day to ensure the safety, security and effectiveness of the stockpile while preventing the proliferation of nuclear material around the world,” said NNSA Administrator Thomas D’Agostino.

Pray served in the U.S. Air Force from 1966 to 1970 and is a life member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign War and Disabled American Veterans. He holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Maine.

Established by Congress in 2000, NNSA is a semi-autonomous agency within the U.S. Department of Energy responsible for enhancing national security through the military application of nuclear science in the nation’s national security enterprise. NNSA maintains and enhances the safety, security, reliability, and performance of the U.S. nuclear weapons stockpile without nuclear testing; reduces the global danger from weapons of mass destruction; provides the U.S. Navy with safe and effective nuclear propulsion; and responds to nuclear and radiological emergencies in the U.S. and abroad.
