Davis-Besse and Cooper uprates approved
The US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has approved modest power uprates at two nuclear power plants. FirstEnergy's Davis-Besse pressurized water reactor in Ohio will increase its capacity from 893 to 905 MWe, while Nebraska Public Power District's Cooper boiling water reactor will increase from 815 to 830 MWe. The increases in output at both plants will be achieved primarily through more accurate means of measuring feedwater flow, NRC said, and will be implemented this summer.

B&W to supply Davis-Besse steam generators
Babcock & Wilcox announced on 5 December that it had been awarded a contract by FirstEnergy for the design, fabrication and delivery of two replacement steam generators for its Davis-Besse nuclear power plant in Ohio. The work will be performed by Babcock & Wilcox Canada Ltd in Cambridge, Ontario. Delivery of the steam generators is scheduled for 2013. The financial details of the contract were not disclosed. The announcement comes a week after Babcock & Wilcox announced that its commercial nuclear generation operations have been consolidated under Babcock & Wilcox Nuclear Power Generation Group (B&W NPG). In August, Babcock & Wilcox won a contract from Bruce Power to engineer and manufacture eight Candu designed replacement steam generators for unit 3 of the Bruce A plant in Ontario.
