South Korea to train Egyptian nuclear engineers
The Egyptian government has asked South Korea to help train Egyptian nuclear energy technicians, according to the Korea International Cooperation Agency. The state-led aid agency said that training could begin within a year.

South Korea seeks to boost reactor exports
South Korea aims to export 80 nuclear power reactors - worth some $400 billion - by 2030, according to the country's Ministry of Knowledge Economy. This would make South Korea the world's third largest reactor supplier with a 20% share of the global market.

A Korean consortium has been selected to build Jordan's first ever nuclear reactor - a 5 MW research reactor. The order also represents the first overseas contract for a Korean reactor design.

Dresser wins Korean control valve contract
Dresser Masoneilan - a division of Houston-based Dresser Inc - has been named as the preferred supplier of control values for Units 3 and 4 of Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power's (KHNP's) Shin Kori nuclear power plant. The reactors are currently under construction.

WNU launches radioisotope programme
The World Nuclear University has announced that its first annual School on Radioisotopes is to take place in Seoul, South Korea, next year. The annual training programme is aimed at young professionals identified by their organisations as future leaders in the field.

Asian contracts for US valve makers
Two US companies have received orders for safety-related valves to be used in new nuclear power plants in Asia. Tyco Flow Control will provide valves for four new units in China, while Flowserve Corp will supply valves for two new South Korean reactors.

Kepco finalizes acquisition of Denison stake
Denison Mines and Korea Electric Power Corp (Kepco) have signed definitive agreements relating to the South Korean utility acquiring a 17% stake in the Canada-based uranium mining company, as well as an offtake agreement.

Korea buys into French enrichment plant
Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power (KHNP) will take a 2.5% stake in the Georges Besse II (GB-II) enrichment plant in France under an agreement signed with Areva. With previous agreements, Areva has now sold 10% of the plant, due to start up this year.

KHNP granted construction permit for Shin-Kori 3 and 4
Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) announced that it has been granted a construction licence for the first two APR-1400 reactors, Shin-Kori 3 and 4, near Busan, South Korea. Meanwhile, construction of units 1 and 2 progresses.
