PCTRAN is a PC-based nuclear power plant simulator package for all types of light water nuclear reactors. Plant types include PWR, BWR and advanced designs in construction or planning. Operating in the Windows-XP environment, the scope extends beyond design basis accidents to core degradation (Level 2) and fission product dispersion (Level 3) in probabilistic risk assessment (PRA). Plant specific models were installed at nuclear power plants and institutions all over the world. It is successfully used in training, engineering analysis, PRA consequence study and emergency exercise.
In 2007, following important expansions are introduced.
- An off-site radiological dose distribution model integrated into plant model or stand-alone as a “Dirty Bomb” or Radiological Dispersal Device (RDD) simulator
- Generation III-plus advanced reactors GE ABWR, Areva EPR and Westinghouse AP1000 plant models
- A simulator for experimental pool reactor TRIGA
