According to REUTERS article Korea Electric Power Co. said on Thursday it planned to discuss a possible acquisition of a U.S. power plant with Southern Co. the biggest power supplier in the U.S. Southeast. It does not specifically say "nuclear power plant" but it looks like KEPCO does not want to be left out of the nuclear revival. It also said that they would be interested in "repairing aging US power plants"
KEPCO, which provides more than 95 percent of electricity in South Korea, said in a statement that chief executive Lee Won-gul would meet Southern's top management this month to discuss KEPCO's expansion into the U.S. power market.
Separately, the South Korean company plans to sign a preliminary deal next week with GE Energy, General Electric Co.'s energy unit, for cooperation in power generation and distribution projects overseas, KEPCO said.
Lee, who will be in the United States until Aug. 8, is also scheduled to meet the management of nuclear reactor maker Westinghouse Electric Co. and engineering company Bechtel Corp. to discuss cooperation projects.
