Job Description

SUMMARY

The Design Engineer position assumes responsibility for the development, implementation and administration of assigned projects and programs.  Essential responsibilities for this position include providing design products in support of operations and maintenance organizations.  The design products are essential to disposition degraded/non-conforming conditions and maintain plant reliability.  Engineering deliverables include products such as engineering changes, specifications, calculations and documented engineering evaluations.

 

EDUCATION

    Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology (Required).  Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Civil or Nuclear Engineering is preferred.

    Master’s degree in technical discipline (Preferred).

 

EXPERIENCE

     10 years engineering or maintenance or operations experience in which two years is in a nuclear power plant (Required)

 

LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS

     No certifications/license are required. 

     Texas Professional Engineering License is preferred.

 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

     Responsible for design, research maintaining documentation and process improvement.

     Collaborate with Key Stakeholders on design projects.

     Prepares/reviews complex safety evaluations and significant hazards review for plant issues.

     Prepares/reviews degraded/non-conforming component disposition.  Evaluates the extent of the condition and its effect on the component's ability to perform the required design function.

     Prepares/reviews causal investigations to condition reports for completeness and required actions.

     Prepares/reviews/approves engineering documentation (e.g.: calculations, specifications, analysis, drawings, evaluations, etc.).

     Reviews and evaluates industry documentation and event reports for relevant application to STP and identify appropriate actions for STP.

     Ensures applicable activities are maintained within allocated schedule and budget.

     Performs duties of the Section Supervisor as delegated.

     Provides Management level reports on specific tasks.

     Prepares/reviews Reportability and operability reviews of station issues are evaluated to applicable regulatory requirements

     Perform reviews of operating experience reports and license amendment changes.  As required, prepare technical reports to be submitted to EPRI, INPO, and NRC.

     Provide engineering expertise when required to support complex plant issues or requests for assistance from other site organizations.

     Attend and complete station, department or section required training as necessary for the position and as directed by immediate supervision.

 

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

     Accept ERO position as assigned and be able to meet the time response requirements.

     Accept outage position as assigned.

 

SPECIAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITION POSTED

     Supervisor to add special skills or abilities specific for the position being posted here.  (e.g. Mechanical, Civil, I&C, Electrical, Projects, Dry Cast Storage Engineer)

     Ability to obtain and maintain unescorted access.

     Strong written and verbal communications skills required.

     Ability to work independently and interface with all levels of personnel required.

     Ability to read and interpret engineering documents and drawings.

     Knowledge of design, operations, maintenance, and testing, preferably nuclear power.  Ability to read and interpret engineering documents and drawings

     Ability to use a personal computer and use of word processing and spreadsheet software.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

     Overtime and alternate work schedules as assigned.

     Office environment and working inside plant buildings with periodic visits to other offices and company property. 

     Support rotational engineering duty. Subject to callouts twenty-four hours per day seven days per week.

     Travel (including overnight stay) may be required for business trips and training depending on the position.
