Two near-finished reactors near Taipei will be completed, the Taiwanese government announced Tuesday. Two GE-Hitachi Advanced Boiling Water Reactors at Taipower's Lungmen plant are more than 90 percent complete, but a series of problems during testing prompted the country's Atomic Energy Council to consider suspending the project in August. This week's ruling determined work can continue under heightened scrutiny from the AEC and the Ministry of Economic Affairs.Construction began in 1997 and was then halted in 2000 only to restart a year later. Completion of the reactors was delayed in 2009. Taiwan Today reported that system tests over the last year encountered fires, blackouts and other problems that raised safety concerns among Taiwanese regulators.
