On Thursday, Babcock & Wilcox announced it received the second order under a $2 billion contract to manufacture nuclear components for the U.S. Navy.The order, worth $600 million and funded last quarter, includes work for the nuclear propulsion systems of submarines and aircraft carriers. The work begins this month at the Euclid, Ohio; Mount Vernon, Ind.; and Lynchburg, Va. facilities of B&W subsidiary Babcock & Wilcox Nuclear Operations Group. "We look forward to continuing to provide reliable and technologically advanced nuclear products that play an important role in our nation's security," B&W NOG President Peyton S. Baker said in a release.The Indiana plant specializes in designing and manufacturing heavy, N-Stamp-certified nuclear components. The Virginia plant is one of only two privately owned sites in the country licensed to process highly enriched uranium, according to B&W’s website. The Ohio works specializes in electro-mechanical equipment. Overall, B&W NOG has shipped more than 1,100 components under government contracts over the last five decades and employs 3,900.
