EDF's engineering chief Herve Machenaud confirmed Wednesday that the French firm is in talks with China Guangdong Nuclear Power Group to potentially partner on reactor development in the UK.

EDF is preparing to build two EPR units each at the Hinkley Point and Sizewell B nuclear plants. Speaking to reporters at the construction site of the flagship EPR at Flamanville, France, Machenaud said CGNPG expressed interest in working on the new reactors with EDF and will begin discussions, Reuters and Bloomberg reported.

The Wall Street Journal reported earlier that CGNPG was considering the purchase of Centrica's stake in the nuclear development project, although the companies involved have not confirmed those discussions.
