After reporting its earnings Thursday, Duke Energy also announced it will appoint Dhiaa Jamil as president of Duke Energy Nuclear. The organizational change will place his position above that of the chief nuclear officer title he held previously. Bill Pitesa, previously a vice president overseeing the Brunswick and Robinson plants, will assume the CNO spot, with responsibility for Duke's nuclear operations.Jamil's oversight will also encompass the company's fleet of 12 reactors in Florida and the Carolinas, in addition to project management, construction and new plant development. In an earnings call with analysts the same day, Jamil noted that Duke will continue to pursue licensing for new reactors at its Levy site in Florida, its Lee site in South Carolina and its Harris site in North Carolina. He said the company expects to receive licenses for the Levy and Lee units toward the end of 2014 or in early 2015, although a delay caused by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission's waste confidence decision is possible. He also said discussions are ongoing with Santee Cooper regarding a possible ownership stake of the two new reactors under construction at the V.C. Summer plant.
