IAEA Board Reappoints Amano as Director General

His tenure as director general has been marked by a resurgence in worldwide reactor construction, as well as the IAEA's response to the Fukushima Daiichi accidents and proliferation concerns in Iran.

A law graduate of Tokyo University, Amano's background is in diplomacy. He worked in a number of posts abroad for Japan's foreign ministry and has contributed to several Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty review conferences, according to his IAEA biography.
