Summer at Plant Vogtle has brought more progress on reactor containment vessels, nuclear islands and plant buildings, as well as the arrival of additional massive components, including moisture separator reheaters and a deaerator. These photos, courtesy of Southern Co., show some of the recent work on the dual Westinghouse AP1000 reactors under construction at the plant near Augusta, Ga.

  • Well, shes finally starting to look like a nuclear plant, friends

  • Still exciting to see a new nuclear power plant being constructed.

  • Seems It will be awhile before any construction painters will be needed on site?

  • GO GO GO

  • I'm all for putting people back to work, reducing toxic emissions into the environment while providing reliable power to our homes and communities.  Just need to fix that spent fuel thingy now.

  • Awesome photos of an awesome plant. I love seeing this making progress!

  • Spent fuel is more of a political and media problem than a technical problem,  You can just put it in dry storage and let it be.  The Fukushima Daiichi dry storage fuel was perfectly fine.  The dry storage facility plan should be in place by Novemeber.  What we need to do in the long run is get rid of the restriction on reprocessing.

  • Reprocessing does not remove the need for geological disposal of high level waste. Please read.....
