Heart Attack Takes Life of Robinson Nuclear Plant Contractor

A contractor employee at the Robinson nuclear plant in South Carolina died of an apparent heart attack while at work Wednesday.

The worker was servicing portable lighting in a parking lot outside the plant's controlled area, according to a report filed with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Emergency personnel took the unresponsive victim to the hospital, and the worker was later pronounced dead.

The incident did not involve radioactive contamination. Duke Energy was required to report the death to the NRC because it happened at a licensed site. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration was also notified. Robinson, near Florence, S.C., was offline at the time for a scheduled refueling outage.

The contractor employee that passed away was Freddie Davis of Patrick, SC. A wonderful father, husband, brother and brother-in-law. He is missed very much.
