SMR Developer NuScale Adding Jobs as it Plans New Charlotte Office

NuScale Power announced Thursday that it will create an operations and engineering center in Charlotte, N.C.

The small modular reactor developer will employ 70 people at the location it will share with its majority owner, Fluor. In a release, NuScale said expansion into North Carolina will assist in its recruitment of nuclear industry professionals. The company plans to hold recruiting events in Lynchburg and Charlotte in mid-May and is already seeking engineering and other positions in South Carolina on its careers page.

Oregon-headquartered NuScale is commercializing a 45-megawatt SMR based on technology initially developed at Oregon State University and the Idaho National Laboratory. In December, it was selected to receive as much as $226 million in matching funding for its commercialization efforts from the Department of Energy.
