Canadian nuclear plant developer Terrestrial Energy said Friday that it had submitted its Integral Molten Salt Reactor (IMSR) design to the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission for Phase I of its pre-licensing Vendor Design Review. The process could eventually lead to a green light for the company's IMSR reactor design.
The step is an optional feedback process offered by the Canadian regulator. Terrestrial Energy said it would be demonstrating that the design meets Canadian regulatory requirements in a number of technical areas. This would be the first step in developing the first “commercial demonstration IMSR power plant,” the company said. Currently, the company estimates the technology will be available to commercial markets in the 2020s.
