Engineering and construction giant SNC-Lavalin announced Tuesday that it has been awarded a contract from Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power Company Ltd. (KHNP) for fuel channel inspections and a contract from China's Third Qinshan Nuclear Power Company (TQNPC) for fuel channel reconfiguration.
The inspection of the fuel channels at KHNP's Wolsong Units 1 and 3 will take place this year. The work of re-configuring fuel channels at TQNPC's Qinshan Units 1 and 2 is expected to take place in 2017 and 2018. SNC-Lavalin noted that it is uniquely qualified to perform these jobs, as the company is the original equipment manufacturer of CANDU nuclear technology.
SNC-Lavalin will send field crews to the Wolsong facility to conduct fuel channel inspections and perform any necessary maintenance required to reconfigure and redirect channel elongation. The company uses proprietary tooling built specifically for this type of operation.
"Winning these two contracts is further evidence of SNC-Lavalin's strong presence in the East Asian nuclear market," said Preston Swafford, Chief Nuclear Officer and Executive Vice-President, Nuclear. "We are pleased at the confidence our customers continue to show us in this increasingly competitive market.
