Rosatom and Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd. (NPCIL) officials hosted a concrete pouring ceremony on Thursday, June 29, marking the advancement of the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant expansion project into the next construction stage.
“A concrete pouring ceremony into the base slab of the Kudankulam NPP third unit's reactor building took place on June 29, 2017,” said Rosatom export division Atomstroyexport (ASE) Group in a statement.
The ceremony, marking the start of the second construction stage of Units 3 and 4 followed the restart of Unit 2, which has gone through two unexpected shutdowns in 2017, each lasting several days.
In May, the unit shut down due to a minor water and steam leakage. It was restarted just days later after repairs. On June 25, the unit was shut down “due to control circuit malfunction,” said grid operator Power System Operation Cooperation Ltd (Posco).
It was restarted Wednesday.
