Engineering and construction giant Bechtel said Thursday that it had been selected as the project manager by Horizon Nuclear Power for the two-reactor project slated for Wales in the United Kingdom.
The plans call for a two-unit facility to be built on the Isle of Anglesey in North Wales, a plant called the Wylfa Newydd power station.
Bechtel management will involve procurement and subcontracting services to be “embedded within Horizon's organization,” the company said. The company is expected to “lead the commercial and contractual relationships with local, UK and global suppliers that will be required to complete the project.”
Bechtel has a long track record in the industry with a hand in construction or servicing 150 nuclear power plants around the world over the past 60 years.
