Los Angeles-based AECOM, a global engineering and construction management firm, said Wednesday that the Department of Energy had executed a 12-month contract extension to Washington River Protection Solutions (WRPS), an AECOM-led joint venture with Atkins Nuclear Secured, LLC, member of the SNC-Lavalin Group, for its management of the waste storage tanks at the Hanford Site in Washington state.
The value of the extension is approximately $700-million. The work is to run from October 1, 2018, to September 20, 2019.
WRPS is responsible for the safe management of 56 million gallons of radioactive and chemical waste stored in 177 underground tanks at the Hanford Site, owned by the U.S. Department of Energy in Richland, Washington.
