Exploration drives uranium resources up 17%

Current economic uranium resources will last for over 100 years at current consumption rates, while it is expected there is twice that amount awaiting discovery. With reprocessing and recycling, the reserves are good for thousands of years.

ElBaradei reports on IAEA's activities in 2007

Mohamed ElBaradei, director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), gave a review of the agency's work in 2007 to its board of governors, who met today in Vienna. He summarised IAEA cooperation efforts with new nuclear countries as well as its non-proliferation headaches.

Huge Hanford clean-up contract

Washington Group, Energy Solutions and Areva will undertake a $7.1 billion contract to manage radioactive waste from the USA's nuclear weapons program. Some 177 underground tanks of radioactive and chemical waste are to be managed.
