Vogtle Reactor to Resume Operation After Water Pump Issue

In a new release Sunday, Southern Co. announced that Vogtle nuclear plant's Unit 1 reactor will resume operation after a brief shutdown.

The reactor was taken down Saturday afternoon because of a water pump issue, the release said.

"The Vogtle team did an outstanding job safely taking the unit offline in a secure and efficient manner," said Plant Vogtle Site Vice President Tom Tynan. "We are looking into the event and expect to be back at full power when all restart criteria are met. Throughout the issue, nuclear and personal safety is always our number one priority."

No radiation was released. The plant's Unit 2 is operating at full power.
