1981         Construction started on Unit 1 and commissioned for commercial use

1983         Construction started on Unit 2

1984         Unit 2 commissioned for commercial use

2006         Implementation of a fifth emergency diesel generator, in operation in
                 Group I and Group II

2008         In application of condition 2 of the operating permit in force, the licensee requested a
                 new permit for a further ten-year period.  This request is being assessed by the CSN,
                 which will issue a technical report in May 2010; licensee requested an 8% power
                 upgrade at each group, which might be implemented if the CSN were to determine
                 compliance with the requirements established in the refuelling outages of October 
                 2009 and October 2010 in groups I and II respectively

2010         Licence renewal for Almaraz 1 & 2 came up for review, and in April the CSN
                 recommended that a 10-year extension be granted, to 2020
