Exelon Awards Outage Services Contract for 12 Nuclear Plants to GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy

GEH to Provide Exelon’s Stations with Full Portfolio of Outage Services, Including Maintenance, Inspection and Fuel Reload Engineering

General ElectricGE Hitachi Nuclear Energy (GEH) today announced it has been awarded a nearly $150 million integrated outage contract by Illinois-based Exelon Nuclear to help ensure the continued, safe performance of the utility’s entire fleet of boiling water reactor (BWR) nuclear power plants in Illinois, Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

The agreement, which is effective immediately and runs through completion of the spring outage season in 2015, represents a continuation of GEH’s decades-long support of Exelon’s fleet of 12 BWR units operating at seven nuclear power plant sites. GE was the original designer of the BWRs for Exelon, the nation’s largest nuclear utility.

Terms of the contract call for GEH to provide services for assisting with the refuel floor activities and performing the under-vessel and inspection services. GEH also will continue to deploy new technologies during outage projects to reduce worker dosage, enhance safety and improve plant performance.

“We are pleased to have GEH as an alliance partner and will work with them to execute our plant outages in a safe and successful manner,” said Michael Pacilio, chief nuclear officer for Exelon Nuclear.

“We are excited to continue working to help Exelon Nuclear find innovative ways to reduce its operational costs by minimizing the critical path of outages throughout the BWR fleet,” said Kevin Lagasse, senior vice president, nuclear services for GEH. “We are committed to deploying the best technology and outage services to help meet Exelon’s regulatory, maintenance and cost priorities.”

GEH’s new outage services contract covers all of the Exelon BWRs:

• Clinton Power Station, Clinton, Ill. (one BWR)

• Dresden Generating Station, Morris, Ill. (two BWRs)

• Lasalle Generating Station, Marseilles, Ill. (two BWRs)

• Quad Cities Generating Station, Cordova, Ill. (two BWRs)

• Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station, Delta, Pa. (two BWRs)

• Limerick Generating Station, Pottstown, Pa. (two BWRs)

• Oyster Creek Generating Station, Forked River, N.J. (one BWR)
