Czech utility CEZ unexpectedly disqualified a bid from Areva last week to build two new reactors at its Temelin plant.CEZ said the bid failed to meet essential statutory requirements, adding only that they were both commercial and legislative in nature. Areva's exclusion would leave Westinghouse and a consortium made up of Atomstroyexport, Gidropress and Skoda to compete for the project, estimated to cost in the neighborhood of $10 billion.Under the bidding rules, Areva has 15 days to appeal the decision, which it said it would Friday. A statement by the French firm following the CEZ announcement read: "Areva is determined to understand the reasons for this announcement. Areva firmly believes it has met all the tender criteria."The group is confident its offer to CEZ is the most competitive one and its commitment to the Temelin completion project remains absolute."
