DTE Donates $1 Million to Mich. Center for Career Training, Including Nuclear

The owner of the nearby Fermi nuclear plant has donated $1 million toward the construction of a new Career Technology Center at a Monroe County, Mich., community college.

The funds from the DTE Energy Foundation will support the capital campaign of the $17 million, 60,000-square-foot center, as well as a program to promote diversity at the school.

"Monroe County Community College and DTE Energy have a longstanding, close relationship that has greatly benefited the citizens of Monroe County," DTE's Ron May said in a Monroe County Community College release Friday. "We are pleased to join MCCC as a key partner in this facility, which will play such a vital role in [the] future of our citizens, our students, our businesses and industries, and our community at large."

The new center will offer new labs and other facilities for programs in nuclear engineering, welding, construction, computer-aided drafting, manufacturing, electronics, mechanical engineering, materials and quality assurance. The new building is scheduled to open this fall.
