Operators at the Oyster Creek nuclear plant retracted an earlier notification to federal regulators after inspecting electromatic relief valve actuators and powered the reactor back up, only to shut it down again when condenser vacuum began to drop.Oyster Creek initially shut down July 7 after abnormal wear was found on EMRV actuators that had been taken out of service. In-situ testing and inspections of the five installed EMRV actuators, though, revealed they were fully operable and safe to use, according to a follow-up report filed with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. The plant then came back online. It had reached 55 percent power early Friday morning when operators were alerted to a degraded vacuum in the main condenser and manually tripped the reactor. The trip was uncomplicated, and Exelon reported that it suspected the problem was caused by condenser boot degradation.NRC records indicate the plant remained offline as of Monday morning. Oyster Creek 2 generates 636 megawatts with a General Electric type 2 boiling water reactor in Forked River, N.J.

Oyster Creek is not on an artificial island, its on regular land. You're referring to the other nuclear plant site to the south that includes Salem and Hope Creek.
Anonymous: My mistake. I've fixed it in the text. (Must have added that detail to the wrong post before I put them online.)
