Site Preparation At Hinkley Point C Halted At Spending Cap

The Office of Nuclear Regulation in Britain said work at the Hinkley Point C construction site was on hold.

Hinkley Point C“ONR is monitoring the impact of the budget constraint upon Nuclear New Build GenCo Ltd's competency and capability. Furthermore, ONR inspectors continue to engage with the program of design and safety case activities so that ONR is ready to respond when NNB GenCol decides to remobilize the project,” the British regulator said.

“The reduction in spend[ing] means that work preparing the site for start of construction has stopped,” said the ONR in a statement.

NNB GenCo, the construction consortium that is made up of EDF Energy, China General Nuclear Corp. and other stakeholders, set a spending cap in April, which has, apparently, been reached.

The work that will continue is limited to archaeological research and remediation of land contaminated with asbestos, according to Penn Energy.
