GE Hitachi Nuclear Contracted For Browns Ferry Outage Services

GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy said it had been awarded a contract to provide outage services for the Tennessee Valley Authority's Browns Ferry Nuclear Power Plant near Decatur, Ala, through 2020.

GE HitachiThe $70 million contract calls for a full range of outage services for the three GE boiling water reactors, which generate 3,300 megawatts of electricity, enough to supply the needs for about 2 million homes. The plant produces 10 percent of TVA's electricity generation.

The agreement covers nine service outages, three for each of the Browns Ferry reactors.

GE Hitachi spokesman Christopher White said the company provided outage services for about 80 percent of the operating GE's boiling water reactors and was seeking to expand further into servicing pressurized water reactors. The company completed one service contract for a PWR this fall.
