Progress continued at a steady pace at the V.C. Summer expansion project in Jenkinsville, S.C. in the first quarter of 2016 -- to the point that General Manager of Operational Readiness Dave Lavigne is assembling teams of technicians to begin discussing day-to-day plant operations for when the first new reactor, Unit 2, comes online, according the a recently released video clip.
According to a SCANA video clip featuring company spokeswoman Rhonda O'Banion, Nuclear Regulatory Commission Chairman Stephen Burns was a recent visitor to the site, where first quarter milestones include arrival and placement of the final two main transformers for Unit 2, each weighing 230 tons.
Also in February, all six of the third course of shield building panels were set in place inside the Unit 2 nuclear island. The 40-feet long welded steel panels, which are later filled with concrete, weigh approximately 30,000 pounds.
Two of the Unit 2 feed water heaters were set in place in the quarter, each weighing about 74,000 pounds.
The recently released clip takes you through progress from January through March.
