A new Georgia Power video shows how workers last week at the Plant Vogtle expansion project in Waynesboro, Ga., accomplished the first major lift since Southern Nuclear was put in charge of the project earlier this summer.
The lift involves placing a 1.4 million-pound steam generator into the Unit 3 nuclear island, which was undertaken last Tuesday. Georgia Power announced the construction milestone, as work at the two-unit expansion project continues unabated, despite prior project manager Westinghouse Electric Company's bankruptcy filing on March 29 of this year. Workers on site are now waiting for word from the project's owners on whether or not the project will continue at all past the end of August.
Georgia Power owns 45.7 percent of the new unites, with smaller shares owned by Oglethorpe Power, MEAG Power and Dalton Utilities. In the meantime, here's the video of last week's extraordinary lift:
