IAEA Begins 10-Day Security Review In China

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on Monday began a 10-day assessment of China's nuclear security, a mission that was prompted by a request from the China Atomic Energy Authority (CAEA).

IAEAThe CAEA said that the IAEA team would visit nuclear plants in the Zhejiang Province. The province is home to the multi-unit Qishan Nuclear Power Plant, which includes the first domestically-designed nuclear plant in the country, as well as six others, and the Fangjiashan Nuclear Power Plant, a planned four-unit plant with two (CPR-1000 models) already up and running and two HPR-1000 models under construction. It is also home to the Sanmen Nuclear Power Stations, a two-AP1000 Unit (Westinghouse design) plant nearing completion.

The mission plans to review security systems, regulatory oversight and legal jurisprudence covering nuclear power.
