French utility EDF has reached an agreement with Nawah Energy, manager of the future Barakah nuclear power plant in the United Arab Emirate, to support operations and maintenance at the plant for 10 years.
The contract was signed 21 November and includes fuel-cycle management, environmental testing, safety ad radiation precautions, according to company.
The contract also covers engineering services and staff training, Nuclear Engineering International reported.
Nawah Energy will operate the four-reactor plant that is being constructed by Korea Electric Power Company (Kepco). The plant, once completed, is expected to generate 25 percent of the country’s electricity and cut 12 million metric tons of carbon emissions each year.
In a statement, EDF said it would “share … the foundation stone of its safety culture,” with Nawah.
