Nuclear Engineering Manager



HYDRATIGHT is a leading provider of Weld Testing and Isolation, Joint Integrity, Bolt Torque and Tensioning, Portable Machining and Heat Treating Solutions to the refining, petro-chemical, power generation, nuclear and offshore industries. HYDRATIGHT's US offices are located in Deer Park and Orange, TX; Gonzales, LA; Mooresboro, NC; Cranford and Flemington, NJ; Antigo, WI; Red Wing, MN; Hammond, IN; and Sacramento and Long Beach, CA.

 Hydratight is looking for a Nuclear Engineering Manager for its Biach Industries business in Cranford, New Jersey.

 Business Contribution:

  • Management and lead role for all aspects of engineering related issues covering Hydratight’s Nuclear industry bolting products including design, development and technical support.
  • Responsible for the management of multiple projects and co-ordination of the mixed discipline design engineering team to ensure product delivery within agreed timescales. Progress research concepts to development phase. Interface with the commercial side of the business to ensure customer goals/product specifications are achieved on time, within cost and to specification.

 Key Responsibilities:

  • Team leader of the Hydratight Nuclear product engineering team. The team is responsible for taking new and specialist products within the nuclear support business from concept through to completion and providing all necessary documentation to enable product launch.
  • Lead the nuclear team engineering resource to achieve departmental & project goals.
  • Take an active role along with Product Management in developing and implementing departmental procedures.
  • Take a pro-active involvement in customer application evaluations including customer visits and liaison with commercial colleagues.
  • Responsible for allocating day to day workload to the Nuclear team engineers and ensuring deliverables are met.
  • Responsible for conducting weekly update meetings involving all Nuclear team engineers and updating Product Management accordingly.
  • Responsible for filtering information from engineering pool to allow swift actions to be taken to maximize project deliverables 
  • Responsible for assessing the training needs of the Nuclear engineering team.
  • Responsible to the Product Management in assessing new product viability, this includes conceptual evaluations and assessments.
  • Assisting other internal Hydratight engineering teams with best practice solutions.
  • To have final sign off on non-standard calculations and, when deemed necessary, liaise with other technical resource internally and externally to ensure solutions are properly engineered.
  • To ensure that Nuclear and specialist products are properly documented, rationalized and updated as required.
  • Responsible for allocating adequate time to ensure that engineers also update commercial documents generated by the Nuclear team.
  • Be actively involved in the promotion of company design process and procedures for global consistency.

 Required Capabilities:

  • Bachelors Degree or equivalent in electrical & mechanical or mechanical engineering with, or be working toward, member grade registration of a recognized professional body.
  • Understanding of electrical circuitry and wiring diagrams, if only mechanically qualified.
  • Experience in the design and design management of safety critical, PLC controlled hydraulic equipment preferably in the bolting products/tensioning industry.
  • Understanding of hydraulic stud tensioning principles.
  • Troubleshooting skills and leadership of team, including field service reps, in troubleshooting during critical field events.
  • Familiar with and capable of preparing formal Root Cause Analyses.
  • Strong presentation skills.
  • Leadership, interpersonal, planning/organizing, analytical and influencing talent required.
  • Proficient in the use of Solid Works and Pro/Engineer 3D computer aided design.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD 2D computer aided design preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Structural Analysis using first principles and FEA packages preferably Pro/Mechanica, COSMOS & ANSYS.
  • Proficient with MS office applications, particularly Word, Excel, Outlook and Project.
